The short answer
Yes. You can take the decoder and smartcard, and often the dish and bracket too if they are in good condition. The dish has to be re-aligned at the new home, and you should update your address with DStv. Confirm the current process on DStv’s website, then book an accredited installer.
| Item | Take it? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Decoder and smartcard | Yes | Pack carefully and keep the smartcard with it |
| Remote, power lead and HDMI cable | Yes | Easy to lose in a move, so pack them together |
| Dish and bracket | Often | Only if they are sound, and if your lease or sale agreement allows |
| LNB | Often | Check for corrosion or storm damage |
| Cable | Usually replaced | Old cable is often damaged or the wrong length |
| Fixings | Usually new | Fresh fittings give a safer mount |
Moving a good dish can save you the price of a new one, but the labour is similar. If the old dish needs a new bracket or LNB, replacing can cost about the same. Our cost guide shows typical ranges, and we give free quotes.
You can, but alignment is the hard part, and so is working safely at height. See our DIY guide.
No, you don’t need to cancel. Update your address and move the equipment. Confirm the steps with DStv.
With the installation booked around your moving date, the gap can be short.
