How Early Should I Book DStv Relocation, and What Happens on the Day?

The short answer

Book as soon as you have a moving date, so you can choose a time slot. On the day, the installer mounts and aligns the dish, runs the cable, sets up the decoder and tests every TV. If your move is at the end of the year or the start of the school year, book even earlier.

How early to book

There is no fixed rule, but earlier is better. As soon as you know your date, contact an installer and agree a window. Moves cluster around the end of the year and the start of the school year, when diaries fill up. See the moving season checklist.

One visit or two?

  • Old home: the dish and decoder come down.
  • New home: the dish goes up, the cable is run and everything is tested.
  • Often the same team does both, on the day or on different days. Tell us your dates.

What happens on the day

  1. Assessment of the roof, wall and TV positions.
  2. Dish mounting and alignment with a signal meter.
  3. Cable run to your TV points.
  4. Decoder set-up, and Extra View if you have it.
  5. Test every TV.
  6. Walk-through and invoice.

What you need to do

  • Confirm approvals in a complex or estate. See our guide.
  • Be there to show where the TVs go.
  • Keep access clear to the roof or wall.

If the new home isn’t ready

Tell your installer early. If the home isn’t ready for cabling, the visit can be moved. We will help you find a new date. Emergency call-outs are available 7 days a week.
