The short answer
The Highveld gets most of its rain between about October and March, with storms, lightning and strong wind. Before the season, check cable, connectors and the dish from the ground, add surge protection and put your router and CCTV on backup power. During storms unplug equipment, and afterwards check your signal and your footage.
Storms and load shedding take out routers first, which stops remote viewing. Put the router and fibre box on a small UPS. If you can’t see your cameras afterwards, read why you can’t view CCTV on your phone.
Keep invoices and serial numbers for your decoder, TV and cameras. Ask your insurer what they cover and what proof they need after a lightning claim.
The summer rainfall season runs roughly from October to March, when most storms and lightning occur.
In severe storms, yes. Unplugging the decoder, TV and router is the safest habit.
Heavy rain can cause short dropouts. If they are long or frequent, the dish, cable or connectors may need attention.
Many policies do, but terms differ. Check yours.
