The short answer
After a move, no signal is usually a loose or damaged cable, a dish that isn’t aligned or has a blocked view, or the wrong equipment for your decoder. Check the power, smartcard and connectors, read the signal screen, then call an installer rather than climbing onto the roof.
Look in the decoder’s menu for signal or satellite settings. The path differs between models. A zero or very low reading means a signal problem, not a subscription problem. Our E48-32 guide explains the codes.
| Cause | Clues | Usual fix |
|---|---|---|
| Dish misaligned after the move | No or low signal on every TV | Realign with a signal meter |
| Blocked view | A tree, wall or building in the line of sight | Move the dish or clear the obstruction |
| Old or damaged cable | Signal comes and goes | Replace the affected run |
| Wrong or missing LNB | A new decoder that needs a different LNB | Fit the right LNB. See what a Smart LNB is |
| Dish left by the previous owner | Dish is old, rusty or aimed wrongly | Have it checked, and replace if needed |
A dish left behind may be the wrong size, old, aimed at the wrong place or damaged. Don’t assume it works because it is on the roof. Ask an installer to check it before you spend money on anything else.
New developments often have young trees that grow into the line of sight, plus walls and neighbouring buildings still going up. A dish that works on moving day can lose signal a year later. Choose a position with a margin, and ask the installer about future obstructions.
Call if the checks don’t restore the picture, if every TV fails, or if you aren’t sure what the previous owner left behind. Tell the installer your decoder model, what the signal screen says and what you have tried. We can help across Gauteng. See our DStv relocation service and how to move DStv to a new address.
Usually because the dish isn’t aligned or its view is blocked, or because a cable has been damaged or is the wrong length.
Maybe. It needs to be in good condition, correctly aligned and suited to your decoder. Have an installer check it.
Update your address with DStv to keep your account details correct. Signal problems are usually not caused by the address.
It depends on the cause. A connector or alignment fix is usually quicker than a new LNB or long cable run.
No. Check from the ground and call an installer.
