How to Schedule a Professional Satellite TV Installation in South Africa

By the Remtech Installers team · Updated October 2026 · 5 min read

The short answer

Pick an installer, tell them what you need (new installation, extra TV, upgrade or move), agree a price, then lock in a time slot. Have your address, decoder type and number of TVs ready, and check that the installer is accredited before you confirm. Booking a few days ahead gives you the most choice of times.

Before you call: what to have ready

A five-minute prep saves a lot of back and forth. When you phone or send a request, an installer will usually ask for the following.

  • Your address, plus a landmark or complex name and any gate access details.
  • What you need: a new installation, an extra TV point, a decoder upgrade, a repair or a relocation.
  • Your decoder (or whether you’re buying one) and whether there’s already a dish on the property.
  • How many TVs you want working, and which rooms they’re in.
  • Roof or wall type, and whether it’s a single or double storey.
Good to know
If you live in a complex or estate, or you rent, check the dish rules with your body corporate or landlord first. Some need to approve anything fitted to the roof or walls.

Choose an installer you can verify

MultiChoice has long advised subscribers to pick from its published list of accredited installers instead of simply trusting whoever tops a search. Some businesses also display MultiChoice logos without being accredited, so it pays to check. Our guide to choosing a satellite TV installer shows you how.

How booking works, step by step

  1. Call or send a request. Tell the installer what you need. You can call us on +27 78 583 1745 or use our contact page.
  2. Describe the job. Number of TVs, decoder type, roof type, and any problems you’ve noticed.
  3. Get a quote. It should split labour and parts, and say what cable length and bracket are included.
  4. Agree a date and time window. Ask how long the job should take.
  5. Confirm access. Who’ll be home, where to park, how to reach the roof or wall.
  6. Get it in writing. A message or email with the date, price and address is enough.

What happens on installation day

Knowing the routine takes the stress out of the day.

  • The installer surveys where the dish and TV points should go.
  • The dish is mounted and aligned with a signal meter, and cable is run neatly to your TV.
  • The decoder is set up and scanned, and every TV is tested.
  • You get a short demonstration, plus a job card or invoice.

A standard job often takes a few hours, and multi-room setups take longer. Be home, clear a path to the TV and roof access, and keep pets out of the way.

Need it fast?

Sometimes you can’t wait: a move is coming, or the signal just died. We offer emergency call-outs 7 days a week, so call and we’ll tell you the earliest slot. If you’re moving, our DStv relocation service is built around your moving date.

After the visit

Keep your invoice and job card. If anything misbehaves, call the installer first. Our work carries a 3-month workmanship warranty, and a good installer will always tell you in writing what their warranty covers.

Questions to ask when you call

  • Are you accredited, and can I check?
  • Is the quote itemised, with labour and parts listed separately?
  • How many metres of cable and which bracket are included?
  • Is alignment and a signal test part of the price?
  • Is there a call-out fee?
  • What warranty do you give, and is it in writing?
  • How long will the job take?
  • What do you need from me on the day?
Good to know
Write the answers down. If an installer gets annoyed by sensible questions, that tells you something too.

Common reasons installs get delayed

  • Access problems. Locked gates, nobody home, or no safe way onto the roof.
  • Missing permission. A complex or landlord that hasn’t approved the dish.
  • The wrong equipment. A decoder or LNB that doesn’t match the job, which is why you should tell the installer what you own.
  • Weather. Heavy rain, lightning and strong wind make roof work unsafe, so a responsible installer will reschedule.
  • Hidden problems. Old cable or a worn bracket that needs replacing.
